Amazon FBA Removal & Disposal Fees 2026
Model removal costs vs. aged inventory fees in the calculator
Aged inventory calculator →What it is
When you want inventory out of Amazon's fulfillment centers, you pay a per-unit fee whether you want it shipped back (removal) or destroyed (disposal). Removal orders ship your inventory to an address you specify — useful for returns, re-prep, or storage elsewhere. Disposal orders have Amazon destroy the units — lower cost, but no recovery. Both are valid tools for managing aged inventory before it becomes an expensive surcharge problem.
2026 removal and disposal rates
| Size tier & weight | Removal | Disposal |

| Standard-size, 1–2 lb | $2.21/unit | $1.64/unit |
| Standard-size, 2–4 lb | $2.84/unit | $2.12/unit |
| Large bulky, 0–1 lb | $2.20/unit | $1.65/unit |
| Large bulky, 1–2 lb | $2.68/unit | $1.98/unit |
| Large bulky, 2–4 lb | $3.29/unit | $2.48/unit |

Removal vs. aged inventory: the break-even math
Should you remove inventory at day 150?
Product: standard-size, 0.5 lb, approaching 181 days
Removal fee: $1.04/unit
Aged inventory surcharge (day 181+): $0.30/unit/month
Break-even: $1.04 / $0.30 = 3.5 months
If you expect inventory to sit 4+ more months → remove now
If you expect to sell through in 2–3 months → hold
Removal order timing — don't wait
The most common removal mistake: submitting a removal order 1–2 days before the end of month to avoid the storage/aged inventory snapshot. Amazon's processing time is 10–14 business days — your removal order is not guaranteed to be processed before the end-of-month assessment. Submit removal orders at least 3 weeks before the date you need inventory out of the snapshot.
Q4 (November–December) removal orders can take 4–6 weeks due to peak volume. If you need to clear inventory before the Q4 storage rate (October 1), submit removal orders no later than mid-September.
Frequently asked questions
What are Amazon removal and disposal fees? ▾
Per-unit fees to remove FBA inventory from Amazon's fulfillment centers. Removal has Amazon ship your inventory back to you or to another address. Disposal has Amazon destroy the units. Both cost money. Disposal is slightly cheaper per unit than removal. Both are alternatives to leaving inventory in FBA and paying ongoing storage and aged inventory fees.
How much do removal fees cost in 2026? ▾
For standard-size items: $1.04/unit for items 0–50 lbs. Large bulky: $2.20/unit for 0–50 lbs, scaling up from there. Oversized items above 50 lbs have significantly higher fees. These are the 2026 rates — removal fees have increased from 2025 levels.
Is disposal cheaper than removal? ▾
Yes — disposal rates are roughly 30–40% less than removal rates per unit (disposal doesn't require return shipping preparation). If your product has no resale or reuse value (damaged, expired, unsellable), disposal is the cheaper option. If your product has value — even as B-stock or donation — removal is usually worth the premium.
When should I do a removal instead of waiting? ▾
Rule of thumb: when your projected aged inventory surcharge (from month 7 forward) exceeds the removal fee + replenishment cost, remove. For a product approaching day 150 with low velocity, the removal fee is almost always less expensive than 6+ months of aged inventory surcharge at $0.30–$0.35/unit/month.
How long does an FBA removal order take? ▾
Amazon targets 10–14 business days for removal. During peak periods (Q4), removal orders can take 4–6 weeks. Factor this into your timing — if you need inventory removed before a specific date, submit the order at least 4 weeks early.
Can I liquidate instead of removing? ▾
Yes — Amazon's Liquidations program pays approximately 5–10% of the average selling price for eligible units. This is less cash than removal + resale elsewhere, but saves you the removal fee and the time/cost of processing returns. For low-value, high-cost-to-process inventory, liquidation often wins.
